About

This project created space for University of British Columbia (UBC) Bachelor of Education (BEd) teacher candidates to consider the complexities of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Decolonization (EDID) initiatives. It focused on Indigenous Education in BC and Sexual Orientations and Gender Identities (SOGI) 123 and encouraged reflection on how a teacher’s positionality impacts the ways EDID initiatives are incorporated into their teaching practice.

It involved three components:

    1. A self-reflective reading and writing phase, focused around three selected readings (May 2022):
    2. A writing workshop (June 18 2022) featuring the three authors above
    3. The publication of a zine, consisting of writing by B.Ed. students to be shared with the wider teaching community

This project was funded by a 2021-2022 UBC Faculty of Education Student EDID Grant. (Thank you!)

UBC is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) people. This includes the infrastructure (e.g. UBC’s servers) which hosts this website and facilitated our project more generally. (Thank you!)
