Students teach, learn, and practice beyond our walls Recent School of Nursing retiree Joanne Ricci and newly appointed instructor Ranjit Dhari trained and supervised students, like Angela Rivers-Bowerman, who gave seasonal protection to our Director, Elizabeth Saewyc (above left); Caryn Dooner, who vaccinated James Olson, Dean of Applied Science (centre); and Matt Russell, who gave shots to both Joanne (above right) and to President Santa Ono (below). Patients First Playbook

The Afternoon Symposium The Afternoon Symposium was “powered by PechaKucha,” and it was indeed powerful. Throughout “Patients First Playbook,” eight speakers spoke for 20 seconds on each of 20 slides to present a total six-minute capsule of their perspective on patient-first care. Dr Dawn Stacey, 50th Marion Woodward Lecturer, offered observations between sessions. Among the speakers were faculty, students, patients, and caregivers. The 6th Annual Symposium On May 2nd, 2018, the Graduate Student Nurses Association hosted their sixth symposium, Nurses as Emerging Leaders in Research, Education, and Practice. The symposium provides an opportunity for graduate students to practice their presentation skills by sharing innovative projects, scholarship, and research in a dynamic, interactive, and supportive setting. No project is too big or too small. 115 BSN graduates tipped their cap to the Chancellor on May 31, 2018. Also crossing the stage were two MPH/MSN grads, ten MHLP graduates, 15 MSN graduates, 16 MNNP Graduates, and three PhD Nursing graduates. Celebrations continued at the Robert H Lee Alumni Centre. Preparing the Next Researchers

Student Synthesis Projects The School of Nursing’s Synthesis Project is a course requirement that brings student research out of the theoretical and into the real world. Within an imposed time frame, students design, develop, and sometimes implement (in partnership with health care programs and partners), projects that address challenges of nursing practice and lived experience of patients and families.
