Controlling your focus. I lot of people can’t focus, and slip into procrastination. Tony Robbins offers some insight.
Tony, when you’re not listening to the cocky Kobe Bryant, you have some good stuff to say.
Here is one of his presentations on the importance of focusing. I have summarized the key points below in addition to adding my own insight:
– Control what you focus on
– Find a more empowering meaning
– Model the actions of those who succeeded before you
I encourage you to try his color finding exercise. It’s a good illustration of how your mind works, much like how if you buy a Toyota Camry, you see more Camry’s on the road. Your mind sees what you want it to see. It’s amazing like that.
Seek and you shall find, perhaps even when it’s not there.
Focus is controlled by questioning.
Asking lousy questions, and you get a lousy answer and a lousy state. Asking why you can’t make the time to exercise, results in your mind thinking up excuses on why. Asking yourself what it takes to hit 6 figure salary, results in thoughts on ways to do it. Positive thinking is key. Negative thinking only leads to you feeling crappy and negative. Ask “how you can”, not “why you can’t.”
Take away point:
The most powerful way to control your focus is through the use of QUESTIONS ~ Anthony Robbins
