week 09- 03.06- Technology and Humans today
Assignment:
- Create a work (an image of) your everyday relation to technology.
Comments
- This project is an experiment: we will attempt to describe some effects of technology in our lives in a collective experimental presentation.
- In class we focused our attention to three important art movements from the 20 century, all of which saw huge potentials in the technologies of their times. The impact of technology were so new that they needed to invent an equally new language to describe their new experiences.
- In our experiment we will depart from the question: What is the role of technology in our everyday?
Suggestions
- Please revise the references included in the class chart. Follow the links to gain a better understanding of the history and ideas of the artists discussed.
- Consider the technologies that are part of your everyday: your phone, your computer, the bus, your kettle, the light in your room… Make notes about your everyday use of one of more of them.
- How do they affect your life? What is your relation with it?
- How would your live be different?
- What are the advantages and disadvantages?
- Create an image of that relation (‘image’ is here understood in the wide sense of the word that we have come to use in class). Bare in mind that your image will be projected in the room.
- Following the artistic approaches and techniques of the FLUXUS artists, consider involving performance elements in your work.
- In class we will project more than one image at a time, thus creating a collective installation-dialogue with varied points of views on technology.
- Consider bringing a snack to share
Weekly Challenges 09
I made an image to describe the everyday relation to technology and I created two version:
colorful: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UZi2NoeTi3iHukx1FoHqIizMv_ZO5UsU/view?usp=sharing
black and white: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1s9yFVDa7PDGP1xCBJMk99iqPL3pYOC2j
I guess I’ll modify it tomorrow, and also explaining more.

I really like this work and I think it really touches me because it is real in our life. We always typing on the computer and phone, and sometimes we do not notice that. The video emphasizes the voice of the typing and presents the impact of technology in our life.

Programming and recycling, the two significant of technology. From my sense, when I think of technology, programming like Javascript, C++, python come into my mind firstly (maybe it is a stereotype), Therefore, I think the subject matter of the image really connected with the technology. And the human figure in the middle seems to work on computer to do the programming. I love the composition of the pic.

Love this!
With the development of the technology (in AI here), and artificial intelligence really helped us in many aspects. However, many people afraid of that someday our human beings will be replaced by the AI. Do they have consciousness?
When I firstly get to know the artificial intelligence is because of “ALPHAGO”, and here I attach the link about the news and video.
https://www.wired.com/2016/05/google-alpha-go-ai/
The rise of the artificial intelligence and end of code. What the AI behind Alphgo can teach
us about being human? Good question.

I love the idea behind the image. With the voice of Alan Watts, the monitoring cameras grabbed my attention and made me nervous! I feel that we, human, are controlled by the technology and there is no privacy for everyone.
Clearly, technology provides us with benefits. BUT it is dangerous. I have a sense of crisis. In our social media and our phones, the technology helps us to record the data and all the details. We do not know ourselves but technology did. It is a threat.
This sound of this piece reminds me of the background music of the movie Blade Runner 2049 and Annihilation which is also quite metallic, mechanical and futuristic. The idea that technology is the extension of human body and the integration of universe and human body remind me of the movie Lucy. At the end of the movie, when Lucy reaches 100% of her cerebral capacity, she disappears in the air and “becomes” everything on the earth. Great work overall!

This piece makes me feel that the technology makes the nature way more artificial and “intelligent” that it’s no longer natural. That may be the negative sides of technology that exert on us.

Love this piece, and it really reminds me of Chiharu Shiota because of the red thread and yarn. (Here I attach the link: https://denadadesign.com/chiharu-shiota-haunting-thread-art/) When I saw this video, I thought of some psychoanalysis part I studied in my social psychology class — defense mechanism. People do something special to protect themselves when they encounter some trouble.
Please use a devise with a Gyro Sensor (Smartphone, Tablet, …) to open this image.

That’s cool! I was attracted by this “virtual reality” display, and I started to think how technology affects our life. What can Gyro Sensor do? Sense rotational motion + Sense changes in orientation = Motion that humans have difficulty sensing.
What is more, I really enjoying using the new technology in class.
I created a work on google drive but I’m unable to share it because of my google account (It’s connected to a company and that means I can’t share it with anyone outside that company even with a link)
I tried to explain last night but I couldn’t post anything because the “ReCaptcha” bot check was broken.
