Together with NACFOR we are examining wildfire management prescriptions and associated timber flows for the wildland-urban interface (WUI) for the village of Nakusp and surrounding area under three different scenarios. Our primary objective is to assess potential timber flows from treated WUI areas.
The three scenarios examined will be: a Forest and Range Practices Act (FRPA) basecase, a scenario where treatment excludes private landholdings and a idealized full-funding full-treatment scenario.
WUI treatment prescriptions to be explored will include: understory and brush clearing, pruning, partial thinning and fire breaks.
Additionally, a Strength, Weaknesses Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis will be conducted to explore possible synergies between WUI treatments and bioenergy production.
