About
This blog is written by Lori Mairs who is the resident caretaker of Woodhaven Nature Conservancy in Kelowna. Lori is a visual artist (a sculptor and jewelry maker). See her website: http://www.lorimairs.com/home.htm.
Lori is collaborating with Nancy Holmes, Associate Professor (Creative Writing) in the Department of Creative Studies at the University of British Columbia Okanagan on the Woodhaven Project. The Woodhaven project is an eco art project in Woodhaven Nature Conservancy in Kelowna. With the permission of the Regional District of the Central Okanagan, a series of artists, faculty and students at UBC Okanagan are creating ephemeral eco art projects about and in the park. This blog is one way we are all learning about the park and keeping in touch with the daily, weekly and seasonal changes.
The series of eco art projects will take place over the course of a year (starting in Spring 2010). The artists (performers, musicians, writers, sculptors and other visual artists) and students will create multiple works of art in the park and in response to the park. The works of art will have minimal impact on the natural environment, leaving nothing in the park and similarly removing nothing from the park. A film about the art projects and the people involved will be created, a 20 – 30 minute film about Woodhaven and the eco art attention it will receive.
For more information about the project, contact Nancy Holmes at nancy.holmes@ubc.ca.
