As an international student, going aboard for education is a challenging decision. Since it takes huge amount of money, everyone wants to make it spend worthwhile. As for me, after taking all the factors into consideration, I chose UBC since its high reputation—-ranked the top 22 university in the world. However, during the process of evaluating universities in Canada, I found out that each of them have their shiny points and could be attractive to students with different needs. Take Uvic for an example, it has relatively small size university compare to UBC, is located in Vancouver Island which is kind of inconvenient. However, due to the small size of the university, it emphasize on providing more work opportunities for students. As UBC only allow 30 percent of students get in to COOP, at Uvic,it’s mandatory for every student to work for two semesters before they graduate. Also, much lower tuition fee could enable more students go to school without the financial support of their parents. When we segment students into different group, we could find out that students choose their school base on their specific need. Waterloo is a competitive university in the field of computer science, it offer golden opportunities for students to go to intern in big companies such like Microsoft. Being trained in professional companies, students could gain more than students from other universities. Also, Queens is famous of providing students more opportunities to connect with instructors by organizing small size of classes.
Students are quiet practical currently, no longer care about the “brand” of universities. They make the choice on their psychographic need. How they value themselves? What’s their dream goal? What kind of lifestyle they want to pursue? Those are all critical factors that they have taken into consideration. Since they have completely prepared for their future, we could have the faith that they could achieve their dream.
