A business news story with business ethics

I am going to talk about the issue of lacking water in B.C. As B.C. province is lack of groundwater, the price of water is very high. However, the province never charges any rental for water withdrawals, which leads to the fact that the company like Nestle Water really controls the water selling in this province and exerts great influence on the society. They can take water from local residence and set the price and don’t need to pay for water or report for its withdrawals. According to the concept of social responsibility, this company is a great example. This company is just using social resource to acquire social returns. In my perspective, water resource should be controlled by the government that has social responsibility. However, now it is held by this company, which means that this company need to be responsible for the society. The result is not so good. They set the price highly and get great benefit from the society. But they don’t really care about the market balance in B.C. So that’s why the government must have the rights to control the resource. As it is mentioned in the article that “social responsibility should involve the acceptance of political mechanisms not market mechanisms”
