Buying Course Packages and Textbooks

Just a friendly reminder to pick up any textbooks/custom course packs from the bookstore before the start of Term 2 and the January rush.

Some instructors will have pre-readings for students to work on before the first day of classes in Period 1. Please ensure that you review your course outlines carefully to determine what materials you will need to complete your pre-readings.

It is common for instructors to require students to buy a textbook and/or course package for their module. It is your responsibility to check the outline for each module you are taking to find out if there are any required materials for you to purchase.

Additional information on buying materials online etc. can be found on Vista under:  Home Page›Post-Core Modules›FAQ’s-Help & Advice

Thank you for your attention.

24/7 Access to Henry Angus Building

Dear students,

We have been informed by our Facilities & Operations team that 24/7 access to the Henry Angus building is now available, with some restrictions. Please make note of the conditions below.

  • Access to the building between 11pm-7am is by key card entry through the doors by the bookstore only.
  • Access to the Robert H. Lee (RHL) Graduate space is via key card access from CA Hall into the corridor (CA Hall is the main hall area where the café is located).
  • Sauder cannot provide 24 hour security for all floors, so 24/7 access is contained to the main floor and basement only  – students are not permitted on the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th floors, which means that your student lounges are not available 24/7
  • Graduate students are asked to contain themselves to the RHL Graduate Centre and CA Hall.
  • Students are asked to ensure they have their student key card with them if they are in the building between 11pm-7am.

Please note that building security is a serious matter and if students are found in the off limit areas after hours, security may confiscate their student cards. Please take a leadership role in helping to keep our building safe and ensure that you have vacated your lounge areas by 11pm.

We are pleased that this access has been granted in time to give you more access to the building while working on your P2 projects and presentations; however we do hope that you will also go home and get some sleep!

Email Forwarding Address @sauder.ubc.ca

Dear 2011 Full-time MBA students,

In response to student demand we are pleased to be able to offer each of you an @sauder.ubc.ca email address.

This email address will take a firstname.lastname@sauder.ubc.ca format and will be a forwarding email address, which means that there is no mailbox associated with it. Email sent to this address will be forwarded to another personal email address of your choosing. You can set up your personal email account to allow you to “Reply From” the @sauder.ubc.ca email address as well, and we will send information to you on how to do this once the @sauder.ubc.ca emails are live.

Please click here to provide us with the following information:

  • Preferred firstname.lastname for use in your email address (if your preferred name is not available, please contact our office)
  • Email address you would like the @sauder.ubc.ca email to forward to

The sooner we have all of this information from you the sooner we can make these email addresses operational, so we ask that you reply by 5pm on Monday December 5th at the latest.

We will be working on a webpage where you will be able to change which personal email address your @sauder.ubc.ca address forwards to, but this page won’t be available until the end of January/early February. For the time being please provide us with your forwarding email of choice, and if you need to change it prior to the end of January you will need to do so by contacting us at the office.

Thank you for your attention.

Best regards,

BASM 501/502 Registration Reminder

Hello Students,

Just a friendly reminder that BASM 501 & 502 must be taken as a pair in Periods 2 and 3. Most importantly you must take the same section of both modules with the same instructor. For example, both BASM 501-001 and BASM 502-001 or BASM 501-002 and BASM 502-002.

BASM 501 and BASM 502 can really be considered as one continuous, 3 credit course. The instructors plan their material over the two sections, and for a student to get a grade in one section, they must attend the same section for the following module.

*Please note that it’s not possible to mix the sections and get credit for the modules.

Thank you for your attention.

Schedule change – P3 – BAFI 521, BAUL 501 & BASC 511

We have made some changes to the Period 3 schedule that we wanted to make you aware of in case it impacts your registration choice for that Period.

In response to significant demand from your class, we have moved two modules in Period 3 in order to enable students, particularly those interested in Finance, to take a combination of 3 modules: BAFI 521 Financial Modeling, BAUL 501 Real Estate Investment Analysis and BASC 511 Supply Chain Design.

The only way for us to make all of these modules available to students was by moving BAFI 521 Financial Modeling to Mon/Wed 8am-10am, and BAUL 501 Real Estate Investment Analysis to Mon/Wed 4pm-6pm. Please see the updated schedule for these changes.

We realize that these changes may be an inconvenience to some students who were planning on taking BAFI 521 in the 4pm-6pm time slot. We hope that those students will appreciate that this change will benefit a number of their classmates, and also keep in mind that while 8am is an early start to the day, the module classes only last for 5 weeks, so it’s not a change that will impact for too long.

Juggling a schedule such as ours with such a large number of elective modules is a challenge, and we don’t make changes lightly. We feel that these changes will benefit a significant number of students, and we thank you in advance for your understanding.
