An incident on campus on February 7, 2012 has prompted UBC to issue a reminder to all students, faculty and staff on its Vancouver campus to practice personal safety and security in daily activities. BAFI 502 002 Capital Structure added to the FT MBA schedule for P3

We are very pleased to now be able to offer an additional Finance module in the FT MBA schedule for Period 3, and have scheduled BAFI 502 002 Capital Structure to be taught by James Park.

Instructor availability is such that this module needs to be taught on a weekend model and will be taught on the following dates at Pt Grey:

  • Saturday April 28th, 8am-5pm
  • Friday May 11th, 5pm-9:30pm
  • Sunday May 13th, 8am-5pm
  • Exam to be held during regular exam week: May 21-25th

If you have chosen Finance as your specialization you may wish to take this module in P3 in order to lighten your Finance load later on in the Fall.

HEC Sustainability Challenge 2012

For a third year the HEC Sustainability Challenge 2012 is being held at HEC Montréal, a leading Canadian business school located in Montréal (Canada).

The case competition takes place on March 17, 2012 as part of the Montréal Sustainability Weekend which is co-organized with Concordia University and McGill University.  Related events include the ‘Business Beyond Tomorrow’ conference and opportunities to discover Montréal.

Participants include MBA students from business schools across North America. The organizers are students from HEC Montréal MBA program.

Registration:

Registration is open until February 24, 2012 and is associated with a fee of 200$. One team per school is allowed. All team members must be currently enrolled as MBA students, either full-time or part-time, at the university. Teams must consist of four (4) members.  Applications are revised on an ongoing basis.

Case:

Participants will be presented with a current, real-life, complex case challenging business strategy in terms of corporate responsibility. They will be asked to conceive an original and practical solution. This year’s case will be related to energy and international issues.

Teams will present their solution in front of a panel of judges comprised of experts and senior executives from the industry.

Project Firefly: Emerging Leaders Essay Competition

Project Firefly is an emerging leaders essay competition that aims to open career opportunities for university students and recent graduates from around the world. The project brings together ambitious, “future thought” leaders with forward thinking sponsors and established analysts and leaders on one platform.

The papers will be reviewed by highly reputed Professors and Deans prior to being published. Sponsors will include top global corporations searching for the tomorrows thought leaders who can provide insight into contemporary issues.

Top 3 winners will receive a trip to the Credit Suisse Thought Leadership Conference in Hong Kong in March 2012.

Scheduling change – FT MBA – BAIT 527 Business Intelligence for Management no longer taught in P5

Please note the following change to the tentative FT MBA P5 (Sept-Oct) schedule.

Our office received information late late week that BAIT 527 Business Intelligence for Managment will not be offered in Period 5 in the FT MBA program. This module is currently scheduled in Period 3 of the FT MBA and will not be offered for a second time to the same class in Period 5 (in the Fall).  This means that any PT MBA student wishing to take this module must do so in Period 3 (April 16th-25th). It will be offered on Thursdays from 6pm to 9:30pm.

If you were planning to take BAIT 527 with the FT program in P5 you will need to modify your schedule in order to take BAIT 527 in P3 instead. If you need help re-arranging your schedule please contact Alina Yukhymets.

It delivers business management teaching and research on not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises, corporate responsibility and accountability and social investment.
