Apply for CHHA Scholarships, the deadline is March 3rd 2017!

Please circulate this email to interested students who might benefit from our scholarships, so that students of University of British Columbia registered with the Access and Diversity can take advantage of this unique program, and provide their input into the proposed Federal Accessibility Legislation.

The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association (CHHA) Scholarship Program was established in 2002, and there are currently three available scholarships offered by CHHA, but the deadline to apply is fast approaching.

Act quickly, because all online applications for 2016-17 must be submitted by March 3rd 2017 at 3pm EST.  Late or incomplete applications will not be considered nor will applications be accepted by mail, e-mail or fax.

CHHA offers the following scholarships to students who live with hearing loss:

CHHA/CHHAF Scholarship ($1,000)

This CHHA/CHHAF scholarship offers financial help to hard of hearing and deafened students registered in a full-time program at a recognized college or university, in any area of study. This scholarship requires the applicant to have a hearing loss and be aware of CHHA and what this association is about.

Frank Algar Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)

The Frank Algar Scholarship does not focus on any field of study; however, the advocacy level of the applicant is taken into account. The Algar family wishes to continue to support the work of their father who was a strong advocate of for hard of hearing people and people with disabilities.

The Dr. Charles A. Laszlo Scholarship ($1,000)

The Dr. Charles A. Laszlo Scholarship requires that the applicant be enrolled in the second or higher year of study in the area of Science and Technology and Trades. In addition, the applicant must also display an interest in supporting activities to improve the lives of those who have hearing loss following the example of Dr. Laszlo’s commitment and work on behalf of the hard of hearing community.
