Dogs have been invaluable over the years for their part in our war efforts, saving many lives. But as it is with wars, there have been many casualties, including canine soldiers, and even more dogs who’ve survived but suffered long lasting effects from the war. So how do we send these animals that we claim as “man’s best friend” into dangerous situations that we have created?

While people may have not been concerned with the dogs’ welfare in the past, it has certainly become a prevalent topic nowadays. On this site, you will find information regarding the history of MWD, how the laws have changed over time to reflect how we treat these dogs, and a brief overview of remaining concerns that are still being addressed.

Some dogs have been trained to parachute with their owners – and many even enjoy it. Photo from: http://ricks.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2010/04/09/rebeccas_war_dog_of_the_week_its_a_bird_its_a_plane
