Hi guys! This is the forth time of my blog. This week we have read Obasan and this is an really interesting book. Even though Dr. Greer had talked about what happened to Japanese Canadian after the Pearl Harbor issue, I am still surprised by the facts which is written in Obasan. Since I was educated in China, Japanese in the Second World War were usually characterized as cruel enemy. But when I was reading this book, I was totally shocked with what Japanese Canadian had suffered at that time. It really makes me think about that the different influence of different perspectives. For Chinese, they will never know these sad suffering on Japanese Canadian from their own country. Because the government’s influence on publishing, Japanese were build to be an enemy and an injurer. At the same time, Japanese might consider that those soldiers were heroes. Government use their power to control citizens’ information sources. For example, some western books are banned in China. ISIS force young children to learn religion and get rid of other culture. That is an extreme example, but governments do use their power to lead citizens to the direction they want. Even nowadays less Canadian know about the facts of Japanese Canadian in the period of the Second World War. Governments only want to give out those information which benefits themselves. These actions actually changes people’s judgements on those issues. The justices are faked if they’re based on purposeful leading of information. We have to stop this situation because people deserve an equal opportunity to know the truth. If the truth are exposed, there might be less conflict in the world. And people will realize how valuable peace is.
For recent days, we have read through Michael Ondaatje’s Running in the family. What really attracts me is those poems…
