Mark your calendars for the event of the year….. the Biochem Ball! Join us for a night of snacks, drinks, music, dancing, photos, and more as we celebrate the end of this school year. This is a semi-formal event and the theme will be Mad Scientist.

It is that time of the year again!! We are hosting a design competition to make the Biochemistry Winter Session 2022-2023 merchandise! Get your creativity down and proudly represent your department!

Time to Thrive (with BSA!)
UPDATE: In light of the snow day and classes being canceled, our Thrive with BSA event today will be postponed and incorporated into our Bullet Journalling event happening on January 12th from 5-7:30pm. However, we still wanted to share the resources we have to help you cope with stress during this frigid final season, so please look out for post on our Insta and Facebook!
Join us on November 30th, 2022 from 6-8 pm in the Abdul Ladha Centre where you can grab some tea and snacks whilst learning some tools to support your mental health and wellbeing. We will be joined by the Peer Health Educators where they will teach us some grounding skills in addition to the MoveU Crew to learn some new stretches! You’ll also get the chance to make your own stress balls, colour and relax, as well as socialize with fellow students! Hope to see you there!

Looks like you’ve really got your study schedule in the bag, but don’t be shy and be a grinch: studying alone in the misery of your cave looking out at UBCville, do it alongside all your other classmates while you all complain about having to do coursework that has nothing to do with your degree, with BSA at 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm the second week of finals, starting December 13th until December 17th!

This discussion will contribute to the development of action plans to address gaps and obstacles in EDI within UBC Biochemistry.

What’s in the Vaccine?
Are you worried about what’s in the COVID vaccine? Have you been hearing different opinions on the internet and not sure what to believe? Are you confused by all the scientific terminology that’s not easy to understand? Find out everything you need to know at BSA’s “What’s in the Vaccine?” event!
“What’s in the Vaccine” brings together experts and students to discuss questions that are on your mind such as: What is a virus, and how does a vaccine work? Specifically, get information on how the COVID-19 vaccines work, and ask any lingering questions. Most importantly, our event will accommodate all levels of expertise, so you don’t even need a science background to attend our event!
Learn about viruses and the immune system from COVID Demystified – a team of undergraduate and graduate students who aim to make COVID19 related research more understandable for a general audience! Find out what’s in the SARS-CoV-2 virus from UBC’s own resident expert, Dr. Pieter Cullis! Learn about how vaccination affects the population at large from an expert in public health!

This Know-Vember, the BSA presents: How to Survive Biochemistry- a virtual Q&A panel with professors, alumni and current students. Halloween Among Us Night

We are hosting a virtual Halloween Among Us Event through our Discord Server. This event is open to people with different levels of experiences with Among Us (tutorials included). Be sure to drop by and enjoy your Friday night with us!!!

BIOC Games Night
Join us for our first virtual event of the year as we play games in an online setting and meet new friendly faces in the biochemistry community. This event is perfect for anyone who wants to take some time off and make new friends before the heavy workload of school begins.
Games include Never Have I Ever, Charades, and Kahoot (with the chance to win the UBC 2020 biochemistry hoodie!). Students will be put into groups to get to know each other more closely, and no extra equipment or apps are required other than Zoom! There is no fee, and all are welcome.
