MY PREVIOUS UBC COURSE SYLLABI*

*A Note of Thanks: I wish to acknowledge any previous instructors of these UBC courses (and some courses/instructors elsewhere) and thank anyone whose course content, similar assignments, ideas, and/or shared resources have been borrowed or adapted within these syllabi. I teach (and learn from) new teachers in the unforgotten imprint of your pedagogical shoes.

  • Summer 2015
    • EDCP 405 Visual Arts for Classroom Practice Course Syllabus July 2015
    • COURSE OUTLINE FOR EDCP 405
    • **Update (April 2017) regarding above Course Outline for EDCP 405 from Summer 2015: I just realized a citation error of mine and discovered that 3 links for online content have either moved elsewhere online or been removed. For some reason, I was not expecting this to happen. Error is (from July 13 on syllabus) for the essay listed as ‘Picturing anxiety’ from Beautiful Suffering: The Traffic in Pain – it is actually written by M. Reinhardt, not Dugan – not sure why I made that mistake, my apologies. I will fix and replace that 2015 syllabus soon w the correct info! This is an incredible book btw, a must-read for photographers and photo educators. The other content I refer to (from same day, July 13 on syllabus) is the PBS Arts21 interview w Alfredo Jaar, as the content online has moved and is now here: https://art21.org/read/alfredo-jaar-the-rwanda-project/. Another online content piece that has moved is the Tate Modern ‘Exposed’ exhibition link (from same day, July 13 on syllabus) is now here: http://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-modern/exhibition/exposed. The one that’s missing now (from July 14 on syllabus) is the Geoffrey Farmer article about his summer 2015 show at the VAG from the Georgia Straight online (I’ve emailed the GA Straight to ask for a copy and correct online link – will share when/if I hear back). Interesting to me that online digital archived content can still be an incomplete or invalid archive. How do we share online material or include it in online syllabi if it’s going to move later or go missing? Do we need to print it all out now or keep rechecking the links as I just did today? Do museums and print agencies online realize teacher are citing their content and it is frustrating when it moves, so students and viewers no longer have access to it or cannot find it? Please email me if you have any advice on this (email on bio page).
