About

Hi, my name is Olivia Santacroce.

I am of Italian and Scots-Irish background, a settler on the lands of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tseil-Waututh peoples. My mother’s extended family is from the small community of Swan River, Manitoba. My father’s extended family continues to live in the Catanzaro region of Calabria, Italy, in the rural towns Fossato and Albi. Though I have been fortunate enough to visit both places, I grew up in North Vancouver and continue to live in the Deep Cove area.

I am writing this post to situate my own identity within my work as a non-Indigenous student. I understand new media very much as a settler with no personal background in media or technology. I am writing this blog as part of my studies in the FNIS program at UBC (FNIS 401F, more specifically), a course that focuses on new media and digital storytelling.
