Upon assessing damage caused by the voles, it was determined that the majority of it occurred in the rows that had sawdust mulch. This was followed by black plastic mulch and closing off with the yard trimming mulch. Across all rows there were 110 holes and 111 tunnels found in the sawdust mulch, 107 holes and 85 tunnels in the black plastic mulch and 70 holes and 36 tunnels in the yard trimming mulch.

This data also corresponds to where the voles were actually caught in the field. The amount of voles caught in the sawdust rows alone were over double the amount of the other rows combined. Five voles were caught in rows with sawdust mulch and two voles were caught in both the black plastic and yard trimming mulch rows.

It is suggested that the mulch based off of yard trimming be used for future blueberry growing operations. This is based off of the data discussed above that shows decreased rodent activity in rows with this mulch type.
