Last Thursday I gave an optional presentation on marketing as a career, from my perspective.  I included my career path, common career paths, qualities & considerations etc.  I’ve posted the presentation in the ‘Tools & Resources’ section of Vista.  Any questions, just let me know.  Great to see the large turn-out and Darren and I really enjoyed your great questions!

For the instructions on the Team Evaluations, go to the 296 Vista home page and click on ‘iPeer’ instructions.  Login to iPeer using the link beside the instructions.  Sign in with your CWL. You’ll be using a ‘Mixed Evaluation’. Remember to evaluate all your team members. This is a confidential.  Please note that there won’t be any extensions to the deadline this time!

Hi Everyone,

Based on the strong responses from both sections, I’ve set the date and time for the marketing career talk.  This Thursday, March 29th from 12:30 to 2:00 pm.  Feel free to bring your lunch.

My plan is to give a short presentation on my career path and experiences, common roles, and what you can expect from Marketing.  In addition, Dr. Darren Dahl (Division Chair – Marketing at Sauder) will join us to chat about / answer any questions you have about the Marketing program at Sauder.  Most importantly though, there will be lots of time to answer your questions.

If there are any other specific topics you would like me to cover or you have any questions in advance, just drop me an email.  This time has been planned based on the questions I’ve received during my office hour visits, so it’s all for you and what you’re interested in hearing.

Your marks and grading forms are now available on the Vista site.  Overall the assignments were well done.

Remember that tips about Assignment #3 are in the Powerpoint slides from Monday’s lecture.

Just a quick reminder that your 2nd blog post is due on Monday, February 6th and that there are specific criteria that apply for most of you – see the Blog Assignment outline on Vista for details.  Note that you need to ensure that your blog is linked properly to the blogroll this time…my offer of re-marking / looking for your post was a one time only offer valid for the first post only 🙂

The sample midterm exam questions are now posted on Vista.  You can find them in the folder marked ‘Midterm & Final Exam Resources’.  Please read the instructions at the top of the examples carefully.  Reminder that you are allowed a 4″x6″ cheat sheet (double-sided) that may be either typed or hand-written.  Office hours are on Monday (1:15-2:30) and Tuesday afternoon (1:30-2:30) in HA351.  Have a good weekend.

Here’s what I will be evaluating in your presentations this week:

• Content: whether you have included all of the information required, logical arguments, authentic facts to support your recommendations, implications of your recommendations, content in your responses to questions, etc.
• Style: voice projection, clarity of speech, eye contact with the audience (vs. reading heavily from notes), memorable conclusion, handling of questions, etc.
• Time management: within time limits, appropriate use of time for part A vs B
• Use of media: polished and proofed slides, smooth transitions between sections, media that support (vs. distract from) your speaking, etc.

Content and style will be weighted most heavily.

Reminders:

There will be a grading form for ALL students to fill out in class during the presentations, including what grade you recommend each team should receive!

There were questions for you to address in the Assignment Outline word document (posted on Vista), please make sure you are addressing those.

Think about what questions I may ask you, what your responses will be and who will be answering them.

I am really looking forward to listening to your presentations and hearing all of your terrific ideas.
