Writing Improvement Program Available at Sauder

I have been reviewing your Skills Matrix and Team Charter documents from Wednesday’s class, and there are a number of teams who could use some help in the areas of writing and editing. So I wanted to make sure you knew about the free Writing Improvement Program at Sauder.

You can sign up or simply drop in at 2-5 pm on Wednesdays, and the instructors encourage you to bring something you’re working on at the time so they can help you with it.  So if you plan ahead on your assignments, you can get the help you need!  And I encourage you to do so, because flow, grammar, clarity, etc. are very important to me in grading your assignments (hint, hint).

Sign-up For a Group Assignment Team Before Class on Wednesday

Reminder to sign-up for a team before class tomorrow morning (Wed, Jan 18th class).  Go to the course Vista site and then the Assignments folder to sign-up.

Each group should consist of 6 students (except for group 10 which is a group of 5, if the course registration list remains the same).  Make sure you sign-up for a group in your section.  You will be in the same group for all 3 assignments.  Start thinking about what organization you’d like to work on and sit in your groups in class on Wednesday.  See you tomorrow.

Setting up and registering your blog to the blogroll

Hi Everyone,

Your Blog Assignment outline has now been posted on the vista site in the Assignment folder.  See below for instructions on setting up your blog and adding it to the blogroll.

Looking forward to seeing some great creativity and insight!

Set up your blog:
If you have never set up a UBC blog before, there is a great resource to walk you through it. Go to this link to Dr. Blog and follow the instructions.

Access your blog: Dr. Blog also tells you how to find and access your blog once it’s set up. https://blogs.ubc.ca/drblog/first-steps/finding-your-blog-2/

Register your blog to the Comm 296 blogroll: You must register your blog to the correct section blogroll for 296, or your classmates and I will not be able to find it.   Follow these simple steps:

  1. Go to the course blog: blogs.ubc.ca/comm296sec102  or blogs.ubc.ca/comm296sec103
  2. Enter your blog URL (e.g. https://blogs.ubc.ca/jennyd)
  3. Enter your last name, then first name (e.g. Dickson, Jenny)
  4. Enter the course password: marketing.
  5. Click the “Register your blog” button. The button can be finicky sometimes, so if it does not seem to be allowing you to press it, refer to the picture below for the exact spot you may have to find and click in order for it to work:
Showing the exact spot on the “Add Link” button that you might have to click to get the widget to respond (it can be finicky!)

PLEASE NOTE: Only click the “Add Link” button ONCE! It may take some time to load, so please be patient. If you do end up adding your blog to the blogroll more than once, don’t worry – I have access to the links and will delete any duplicates. No need to email me about that.

Customize your blog: Dr. Blog is also a great resource for customizing your blog’s appearance. Have some fun and show your personality and interests!  Make sure you adjust your privacy settings so we can access your blog.

Why not get started right away?

Welcome to Introduction to Marketing

We have an exciting, busy term ahead of us, so I encourage you to jump in wholeheartedly.

Regardless of the option you choose, marketing is an important element of your professional and business training. For example, did you know that 3 of every 8 CEOs have a marketing background, and that marketing costs = approx. 50% of product costs? And if nothing else, keep in mind that you will eventually graduate with hundreds of other Sauder BComs and thousands of business students from other schools (and that’s just in your grad year alone!). That’s some stiff competition, and many of you will graduate with the exact same credentials. How are you going to stand out? Through effective marketing, that’s how.

So hang on, because we’re going to move quickly. I look forward to guiding you through Introduction to Marketing!
