Social media professional portfolio: 25%
Create and develop a professional portfolio. The portfolio must include, as a minimum, an up to date LinkedIn profile page. Two-stage assignment:
- Social media audit: Current self-audit and proposal for improvement during course (max 2 pages) – formative feedback but not graded. Due Feb 9, 9.30 a.m.
- Social media portfolio: Create/develop professional social media portfolio. Due March 15, 9.30 a.m.
Social media in-class presentations: 15%
Students will work in pairs to prepare a 10 minute in-class presentation on best practice use of social media, based on a theme.
Vancouver Social Instagram assignment: 15%
Post a photograph and short profile to Instagram of someone working in social media in Vancouver, using the hashtags #VanSocial and #UBCDSM. Due Feb 12, 9.30 a.m.
Strategic social media client project: 40%
Students will work in groups, bringing together Sauder and Journalism students, on a social media project for a client. This collaborative project is intended to be a practical, hands-on exploration and implementation of what we’ve covered throughout the course.
Project breakdown:
- Discovery: Assessment of needs and proposal – 15%. Due Feb 2, 9.30 a.m.
- Outline of initiatives and proposed scope of work for class workshop – Due Feb 23, 9.30 a.m. (formative feedback/not graded)
- Deploy and learn: Strategic social media plan for client to test/implement/assess and aid in execution, including initial assessment of results and recommendations – 25%. Due March 29, 9.30 a.m. (Includes an individual one – two page reflection on the project).
