Call for a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) to design, carry out, and analyze a series of studies that measure effectiveness of the Math Educational Resources Wiki. Supervisor: The GRA will be supervised by Dr. Eric Cytrynbaum (UBC Mathematics Department) and will report to the project team, led by Christina Koch (alumna, Mathematics), Bernhard Konrad, Carmen Bruni, Iain Moyles, William Thompson and Michael Lindstrom (PhD Candidates, Mathematics). Hours per week: 6 hours per week on average. The number will vary from week to week, in accordance with the requirements of the project and the availability of the student. Salary: $28.33/hour Position description: The Math Educational Resources (MER) wiki is an online math learning resource developed and curated by graduate students in the UBC Mathematics Department.  We are seeking a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) to assist with the design of a series of studies evaluating how students use the resource and the impact it has on their learning habits and their understanding of mathematics.  The GRA would then independently carry out, and analyze the data collected from these studies.  This position is ideal for someone familiar with mixed methods and incorporating tools such as surveys, interviews, and google analytics.  The GRA will be responsible for all stages of the research, including design, implementation, data collection, analysis and write up. This person will work with members of the MER wiki team, instructors in the Mathematics Department, and staff from CTLT throughout. Qualifications: ● Experience in education, psychology, or usability research ● Ability to work independently, while also coordinating with a larger team ● Keen about improving student learning at UBC ● Mathematical subject knowledge is valuable but not required Position start date: June 1, 2014, or when filled Position end date: April 30, 2015 Interested candidates should submit a resume and short cover letter highlighting their interest and suitability for the position.  Review of applications begins on May 19 and will continue until the position is filled.
