Aug 15th: Research Assistant in LLED

Here is a brief description of the project:

“explore, identify and compare strategies that widen access and participation by vulnerable and underrepresented student groups in five gateway cities—two in Canada (Toronto, Vancouver), two in the United States (Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago) and one in England ( London). Vulnerable and underrepresented student groups will include those with special needs, underrepresented racial, ethnic, immigrant and lower socioeconomic status groups. The gateway cities selected provide meaningful national and international comparisons of equity issues related to select vulnerable and underrepresented student groups. They also afford us with the opportunity to examine these students’ access to and participation in Post Secondary Education as well as comparisons of equity issues related to select vulnerable and underrepresented student groups.

Post Specification The Department of Curriculum and Instruction, one of four departments in the Faculty of Education, is a dynamic centre in the Asia-Pacific region for professional training and research in the broad areas of curriculum and instruction. In addition to faculty-based programmes such as undergr aduate programmes in teacher education, Postgraduate Diploma in Education, Master of Education, Doctor of Education and PhD programmes, the Department offers several Master of Arts programmes. The Department invites applications for faculty posts at Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor ranks in the field of curriculum studies. Applicants should have (i) excellent academic qualifications including a relevant doctoral degree; (ii) a strong commitment to excellent teaching; and (iii) a track record of active research and publications. The appointees will (a) teach courses on key aspects of curriculum studies such as principles of curriculum design and development, curriculum implementation, and curriculum eva luation; (b) engage in thematic programmatic research and seek external competitive research grants; (c) conduct teaching practice supervision; and (d) supervise doctoral students.

 

Appointments will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially commencing as soon as possible, which, subject to funding and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation later.

 

Monthly Salary and Fringe Benefits Salary will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package, including medical care, plus a contract-end gratuity for an appointment of two years or longer and housing benefits for eligible appointees.
