The Second Post in Term One

Radical Dictation

Radicals are parts of Chinese characters and are like roots in English words. They give specific meaning to characters. For example, Radical 木 means tree or wooden. Therefore, you can always find radical 木 in names of trees, like 枫maple, 松Pinetree, 杉fir.
Students will systematically learn commonly used radicals this term, which will help them understand new characters.
1. Radical dictation date: Oct. 8th
2. Radical dictation list: Radical-Dictation-List-set 4 human
You can also find the list in your child’s planner. The English meaning and Pinyin will be provided in dictation. Students are required to write the radicals that match the English meaning.
The radicals with * are foundation ones, which are usually about ten radicals. Everyone should memorize them. For those students who want to challenge themselves, they can choose to memorize all radicals ( about fifteen radicals). Please allow your child to make their choice.
3. Practice worksheet偏旁

Some Radical Worksheet with Audio Barcode

Students are encouraged to bring radical duotang back home. You can find a barcode on some radical worksheet. Use a mobile phone or ipad to scan it and your child can listen to Mandarin audio, which helps students pronounce Mandarin words correctly.  Please note that students don’t need to memorize all words. 10-20 minutes practice is enoughPlease minimize the screen time of children
