The First Post in Term One (Sept. 2025)

Hi Parents,
Welcome to Ms. Chen’s Mandarin website.

The main focus of Mandarin study in Term One is:

  • Strengthening practice with complicated syllables in Mandarin(三拼音节), such as iang, iong, uang.
  • Learning commonly used radicals (常用偏旁) and understanding how radicals were used to form groups of characters (word families)
  • Learning various children’ rhymes and becoming familiar with basic sentence patterns to support listening, speaking, reading, and writing

Some learning routines:

  • Dictation on radicals or Pinyin is conducted every two weeks. The dictation list and other resources can be found here. Please check it regularly. The first dictation list will be posted by early Oct.
  • Mandarin duotang may be brought back home on the weekend. Please remember to bring it back to school next Monday.

The left part 女 which means female gives the hint about meaning. The right part 马 which sounds mǎ gives the hint about its sound Mā。马 is a basic character and 妈 is expanded character using Meaning-Sound Method.
