Subject: Peer Review of Application Package draft

Hi Russel I’ve reviewed your application package. I’ve provided the following feedback organized by each document with the reference letters feedback in one section. Overall the application package was well written. The cover letter and reference letters were written in a respectful tone when addressing the reader and the resume outline your accomplishments well. There were some weak points such as not expanding more about your current degree in your cover letter and some structure issues with your resume. I’ve expanded on these points in greater detail in the following provided feedback.

Job Description

Well written with a detailed description of the job and the required qualifications. The MLA reference was also provided. The job is relevant to your degree as it falls in the tech sector.

Cover Letter

The cover letter was written with the correct tone in addressing the hiring manager. There are issues with the introduction paragraph and the middle paragraphs. The introduction can include your reasons for applying for the particular role or the company such as the company being one of the leaders in the tech sector or highlighting that you have heard great things about the company and role from colleagues. This shows the hiring manager your excitement in applying for this role. The middle paragraph was well written on highlighting your business skills and experience but you could definitely expanded more on your current computer science degree. Going into depth about particular courses, languages, or projects can be expanded here where as in the resume we have limited space.

Resume

The resume was very organized and had a clean structure. The resume would be very easy to scan and find keywords. Your contact information was provided. The resume highlights your business skills, accomplishments and experience very well. For this particular job adding your computer science skills such as programming languages, tools, and frameworks would be a good addition. Right now it doesn’t show that you have a degree in computer science until I scroll down to the second page and see your education section. A mixture of highlighting your business and computer science skills would be better. Overall everything else such as the profile, accomplishments and work experience was well written. They were all short and straight to the point.

Reference Letters

The reference letters were written very well. The tone was perfect in addressing a fellow colleague or superior. The letters kindly asked for a reference but also provided contact information in case they had concerns or feedback. Overall well written and achieved the goal of the letter to ask for a reference.

Conclusion

The application package is pretty well written right now. The resume and cover letter are just missing key information about your current degree and expanding more on that would align this application package more with the IT job.
