Subject: Summary of Formal Research Proposal – Feasibility Analysis of Transitioning Biology Lab Courses to an Ungraded Approach at UBC
I have posted the formal report proposal (Feasibility Analysis of Transitioning Biology Lab Courses to an Ungraded Approach at UBC) and peer-review assignments on my team forum Team 5 as per lesson 2:1. A word doc for both assignments is attached below. The proposal includes the following:
- Introduction: background on why the current grading system is used in education
- Audience description: Meigan Aronson, Dean of the Faculty of Science at UBC
- Statement of problem: Most biology lab courses at UBC follow the traditional grading system, which has many drawbacks for learning.
- Proposed solution: Transitioning all biology lab courses to an ungraded approach
- Scope of questions: Attitudes, logistics, workload, and pros and cons of an ungraded approach
- Methods: Interview, survey, and secondary research on graded and ungraded learning approaches
- My qualifications: Relevant academic experience with graded and ungraded learning approaches
- Conclusion: An ungraded approach to biology lab courses will improve learning by avoiding the drawbacks of the traditional grading system.
The peer review examines the formal report proposal of my writing team member, Dylan Flach.
Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the proposal or peer review. I look forward to your feedback.
