A1 – Analyst Report: Thinkific

What makes Thinkific stand out in a saturated market of online learning platforms/learning management systems? Is it a good investment? It was interesting to look at this publicly traded Vancouver-based company from an investment perspective. It seemed appropriate to present my findings within Thinkific, here is the link:

Hi Marie-Eve! Thank you for this research about Thinkific. I first learned of this company when it was named one of the top local (Vancouver) companies to work for and from there, I was interested in working for them! It’s great to know they are doing well and encourage a relaxed, equitable and progressive work culture.

Thanks, Cindy! I have also always been interested in them as an employer and this was a motivator for selecting them 🙂 thanks.

Hi Mev, I really enjoyed reviewing your OER. The website was visually stunning and easy to navigate. As a training manager, I can totally relate and understand how overwhelming searching for a new online course platform could be. Not because there is lack of LMS options, but because there are way too many options to choose from. You did an excellent job comparing the main LMS competitors, as an investor it gives me confidence and visibility on why you are recommending Thinkific. One thing grabbed my attention as I was reviewing the SWOT piece. For one of the weaknesses of Thinkific, you talked about potentially needing other paid services. How big of a risk is that to me as an investor? Should I be expecting hidden costs?

Thank you for your feedback, Saeid! It feels good to have someone else that relates in this oversaturated market. And to answer your question – there could be hidden costs as a content creator, here is a look at all the apps that can be used: https://apps.thinkific.com/. I did notice that Thinkific is trying to embed more functionality as they develop over time. They did not have an assessment option in 2020, which meant you had to pay for an add-on, Brillium. They have now embedded it into their product. Hope that helps!

Thanks Mev. Great to see that Thinkific has expanded their add-ons. Shows how market forces and competitors could drive innovation/offerings.
