The Beginning of my ETEC 522 Journey!

Hello everyone!

My name is Petros Katsigiannis. I am currently working as an ESL teacher in the elementary sector. I am from Montreal, Quebec.

Academic background:

– B.Ed. in TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) at Concordia University (2015-2019).

  • -Certificate in Inclusive Education at McGill University (2019-2021).
  • I am currently in the Graduate Certificate program in Educational Technology at UBC, and I will be transferring to the MET next semester. This is my fifth course, and so far I have really found my learning experience to be constructive towards my professional development as a teacher. In ETEC 522, I really look forward to learning how to become a successful pioneer in regard to learning/implementing new technologies into my classroom and professional career. I also look forward to learning from my classmates this semester.
Ever since I’ve been in the Graduate Certificate program, I have learned about many technological tools/platforms, and I have applied several of them in my classroom in order to facilitate teaching and student learning. The picture above is an example of one of the tools I developed for my Grade 6 students. I chose to develop an infographic for them that they can use in order to further practice/improve their ESL skills outside of the classroom or when they have free time in the classroom after completing the required academic tasks of the day. All of my students have access to a Google Chromebook. in and outside of the classroom.

I look forward to meeting and interacting with you all!

Hi Petros, working with ESL students is always so much fun. With all the activities you have suggested above, it gives me so much of excitement – seeing that many ESL student are being benefited from these educational technological tools. I wish I had these tools when I first started learning English as a second language. Also, making use of infographics are always my go-to when comes to presenting a bunch of new ideas. Looking forward to working on new ideas with you in this course!

      Hello Michelle!

I agree with you regarding the fact that it would have been great to have these kind of resources (such as Google Chromebooks, infographic, online learning games, etc..) when we were growing up. Language learning just seems way more enjoyable now with technology than when we were younger. hahaha
