The biggest question for me is that AiiRC is meant to make report card more personalized, but if educators are checking off boxes and created a generated comment for each student, how personalized can the comment be? Have you looked into digital portfolios? I can imagine AiiRC working really well with these, if it could create a word-cloud or some sort of automatically generated summative report based on all of the pieces of evidence within the portfolio. This way the teacher voice is included in the report. I think this is off to a great start, but just wanted to share some things to think about that popped up in my head!

And what do we have to gain as an EVA looking to invest? Especially as someone not familiar with the current report card software landscape – these would be helpful to consideration.

I agree with Justine’s question about adding in the personalization aspect, but at the same time I do feel like the personalization aspect does even get lost on manually written reports. It always gets to a point where I reuse some sentences that fit multiple students and it eventually turns into a “build-a-report” compared to a completely personalized report. I think if AiiRC has an option to put in personalized remarks for each student that it would be excellent! Without the financial information and knowing how much you would be asking for, I am unable to make a true investment decision. I think the idea is great and does create many opportunities (maybe teaming up with provincial/state education departments for mass-adoption rollouts). Overall, great idea just I am unable to invest without the financials and a competitive analysis!

It sounds like you are checking some boxes and then the AI is coming up with a comment for the student (I think) which, to me, sounds like you are relying on an algorithm. If 2 students have the same boxes checked, would the comments be the same? I know MyEd isn’t fabulous, but it does allow the teachers to personalize comments when needed. Honestly, I’m not a fan of report cards; i’d rather replace them with more face to face meetings with parents and students!

Your venture addresses a pain point for educators and is in the direction that education is (or should be) heading with technology. Hand written report cards have now been displaced by digital ones but still require countless hours on the teachers end. Thinking about the report card system that our province uses, there are options to copy and paste comments and expectations which lessen the workload. I like how AiiRC uses AI to filter teacher feedback that the teacher into comments. From a purely mark-based evaluation method, I can see how AiiRC would be helpful but I think there needs to be an elements of individualization for each report that AiiRC does not seem to offer.
FEEDBACK: Hi Seime, I will admit that writing report cards is one of the more tedious parts of my job, especially because this monumental task is done entirely outside of working hours, but I don’t think that this program would have the ability to truly personalize reports in the way that my province (BC) is looking for. Although I see the ability of this program to communicate some information in a way that saves a substantial amount of time, the bulk of the report will still need to be written by teachers. I would be more likely to invest if it was a proposed extension to an existing program that streamlined some of the less successful features.

I feel that spending less time on the reporting process allows me to focus more on teaching and sharing new ideas. In your solution, I feel there could be an added element that allows educators to personalize the assessment. As a parent, I find generic reporting to lack value and much prefer less reporting with more meaningful, personalized details. I think your pitch could have more details related to the market, financials and competitive advantage that AiiRC has over the competitors you identified.
