FEEDBACK:
You tapped into a large motivator for me signing up for this program. As I believe we’ve chatted before, I love to design characters using skill trees in RPGs. Being able to reflect on my career and navigate a new path with a similar manner sounds incredibly exciting.
I will be reviewing your venture pitch and will post a more in-depth comments thereafter.
Hi Enrico, I found this to be a very original and timely idea! The need to reskill the workforce, especially adult learners who are shifting careers by necessity or choice is real, yet it still feels under-addressed in mainstream EdTech (or at least I haven’t seen much being said about it 😉 )
I think your focus on tracking in-demand roles is critical. Connecting users not just with content but with real market signals increases the relevance and impact of the learning path. While it may not guarantee a job, it does create a strong bridge between training and opportunity, and that’s what many people are looking for.
Your use of microcredentials and microlearning also feels very aligned with the way the world is going. Long, rigid academic programs just don’t match the pace or flexibility that learners (and employers) need. You’re offering a format that respects people’s time and reality.
I also really liked the tiered/freemium model, it’s inclusive, lowers barriers to entry, and can generate value from multiple user segments. It could be interesting to explore how partnerships (e.g., with employers, workforce development agencies, or governments) might help subsidize access or generate revenue streams beyond individual users.
Lastly, there’s something empowering in your core idea: helping people see a path forward when their current one is uncertain. That human, hopeful element makes your venture not just smart, but meaningful. Great venture idea!
Thanks Victoria,
As I reflect on Pathmapper, I can see the influences of me being in the public sector trying to create something from an equity standpoint to allow a good amount of access for the least amount of cost. Thank you for your feedback.
REVIEW:
Thank you for your work and interesting venture, Rico! While I am compelled and see value in your venture, I am concerned about its feasibility.
Even the most well-designed venture can fail if it doesn’t spark interest when pitching. When I arrived at the ‘Background’ section of your site, I had to reread the first pain point, to make sure I was understanding the message. The second point may be accurate, but a reference and more detailed/quality graph would help establish credibility. I enjoyed the sample of your application on the ‘Goals of the project’ page, but the rest felt disconnected. For example, the images – while relevant – felt visually disconnected from the text. As an investor, effective editing, text features, graphics, and their formatting work together to help demonstrate the team’s overall professionalism.
I think that building training modules would require cumbersome and costly infrastructure to facilitate specific and quality training at such a scale, requiring a dedicated and dynamic team of humans to continually check and track updates made by the AI to modules for accuracy. Linking partnered third-party training platforms through your tool could be a more feasible design, with your venture focusing on its capacity for reflective dialogue to help users plan, budget, and schedule their learning while also connecting users to these third-party training resources through your platform. Perhaps this is your intended design and I just missed that in your pitch.
I love free basic accounts, but I am curious as to why you chose to offer a one-time payment of $1500 for lifetime access. When compared to the CAGR of other education markets for edtech ventures, the career development and training market is lower at 5.5% which has ultimately led me to my decision to recommend that investors not fund this venture.
Hey Patrick,
Thank you for the review! One of the things I really appreciate about your analysis is that it’s well thought out and for someone who isn’t very data oriented (I know I did the data visualization OER), I agree with all the points and I truly value all the analysis.
I agree with everything you just said, especially with the modules. I went with the thought that I could possibly use “AI” to create and make the dream happen, but I would assume that would be using my entire operating budget for this venture let alone operations costs.
To be perfectly honest, the lifetime access for $1500 reminded me of a previous Udemy model.
I really like this idea, Enrico! Pathmapper has great potential, especially for individuals who feel uncertain about their career choices or those who are unhappy with their current job. The way it integrates life schedules, budgets, and learning capacities could be incredibly useful for people looking to reskill or explore new career paths. However, I do wonder if the emotional aspect of career choices should be considered as well. While career paths can often be analyzed, a big part of making a successful transition is how individuals feel about the change and whether they are happy with the direction. I think human advisors could still play a crucial role in providing that emotional support. Additionally, I think incorporating psychological research or principles into the platform might make it even more effective in helping people navigate both the practical and emotional sides of career transitions.
FEEDBACK:
Well done Rico,
I think your ideas to embed the learning opportunities within the platform and to provide users with choice and flexibility in terms of the amount of time they can dedicate to working on courses and upskilling activities is a way to meet your users where they are and provide them with a path that might be more personalized and suited for their own unique situation than what other tools offer. I really like the Resume Analysis idea and tried uploading a sample resume to see how it works and I think it’s a really interesting concept – nicely done. How would you retain customers over the long term? Once they’ve used PathMapper to identify the courses or credentials needed for their planned career move, how do you prevent them from cancelling their account? If you can find a way to offer long term ongoing value in addition to this guidance, I think you would have a really intriguing venture.
FEEDBACK:
Great work on your pitch Rico. I thought this was a really smart idea that I think could help a lot of people in a very practical and meaningful way. I liked how Pathmapper acknowledges the complexity of career decision-making and tries to utilize a number of different data points to guide the user. I also liked how you designed it with an understanding that people have limited time to dedicate to learning new skills. Another strength of your pitch was that you discussed how you would keep courses and content current and up-to-date. One thing to consider is how you could connect learners with potential employers more directly with each other on this platform. This might add more incentive for learners and a way for employers to find people more easily.
FEEDBACK
Hi Rico,
I thought it was impressive that you built a working prototype to accompany your presentation, so investors can see and experience for themselves how Pathmapper works. I appreciated the incorporation of gamification to appeal to neurodivergent learners too!
