IFTTT

For my A1 project, I focused on the use of a web-based productivity tool called If This Then That (IFTTT).  This is a tool that has been around for a few years but is starting to become more popular and widely used.  It can be used and accessed from both desktops and mobile devices.  The video below explores what IFTTT is, how it can be utilized on a mobile platform, and some possible uses for education.  To check out IFTTT click here, to download the app for Apple click here, and for Android click here.

IFTTT provides the opportunity to anyone to code automation through applets. Mobile technologies are part of all aspects of our lives, and with the use of IFTTT we can further customize how these technologies can help us.

As a coder at heart, I am surprise I haven’t heard about IFTTT until now. I just created my first applet, and it is something I have been trying to figure out for a while. The applet I created is to ask alexa to call my phone, so that I can find it. If you explore all the coding “recipes” already provided you can find applets for simple tasks, like asking alexa to call your phone, to more complex applets, such as turning on your Hue lights when you arrive home, or manage your nest thermostat, or add events to google calendar. I would like to explore more applets that can be used with educational technologies.
