Calm – Mindfulness

One app I find useful in the class and for myself is the Calm mindfulness app. This app is free for educators! We are all so busy on our phones, work, activities, etc… that sometimes it is nice to slow down, be present, relax, and just focus on the moment. I particularly like to use this app after lunch. All my students come in, move their chair to somewhere without distractions, and I put on a mindfulness activity or body scan that we all do to bring our energy back down after a busy lunch time.

On this app you can find sleep meditations, stories, music, daily progressions, and more. The power of one’s voice is interesting. There are several different authors on the app. I particularly like the voice of Tamara Levitt. I find her voice to be the most soothing and calming. When I listen to this app on my own time, it is usually at bed time to get to sleep. It works!

I hope you can take this app and use it in your classrooms to help with behaviour management, the whole classroom environment, and your own personal uses.

This is a great app for the classroom. It has been great to put on the rain while students are writing a test. Even using it while I have been working on my own assignments has been great. One of the features I was introduced to was the Sleep Stories for my own children, which really helped them going to sleep after we moved.

      Hi Kylie,

I have to say that Calm is definitely a rising trend nowadays. It’s quite popular at my school as well. I know a lot of teachers are using it. I came across the app at a workshop during our wellness week at school a couple of years ago. I’m glad to hear that you say it helps with sleep. I’m going to try 🙂

      Hi Michael,

I haven’t used the music much yet. I like the idea of having rain in the background during the test. I usually still primarily resort to Youtube to listen to music in the clasroom. Every morning I have a calm music in, which I think sets the vibe and environment for the day.
