Bridging Culture to Tech- 5G and the Entertainment Industry during Covid19

(Ericsson.com, 2020)

With the global lockdowns the entertainment industries took a heavy hit. In fact, lately very little has been discussed in the news about this issue. Ericsson an American 5G provider created the “Connect Culture” Project to partner with independent professional musicians that used the telco’s high quality equipment for live online performance. The objective of the project was to heighten the sensory elements that make humans so moved and emotional engaged. The culture arts and human emotion are rarely discussed when decisions occur concerning 5G. Ericsson however identified this as a need and decided to experiment with this idea by asking artists and creators what resonated with them and what had been lost during the pandemic. This in my opinion, is a very unique way for an industry to utilize technology, for it is seldom with telcos that these projects are developed for social need (in this case human interaction with live performance), but usually for profit and rate of return. This is a friendlier article to get away from the technical aspects typically noted from 5G networks, and to think more about the cultural possibilities that may emerge form it.
