Virtual Onboarding Success Story

As someone who has been in the software education field for several years, I have come across many different examples of Mobile Education. However, the one that is top of mind, is the PointClickCare Onboarding program. PointClickCare, for those who don’t know, is a healthcare software used in long term care facilities, home care, and more. It is used by caregivers and nurses to ensure the patients, residents, and seniors receive the best care.

I started my new role at PointClickCare this week, and they have a four part onboarding process that they deliver remotely and virtually.

  1. Get Ready/Preparation: The setup prior to starting. This includes receiving equipment and accessing logins.
  2. Orientation: 3-hour-long virtual orientation session that includes interactive questions, icebreakers, and introducing you to a “company culture buddy” (your go to resource for questions as you begin your job), and more.
  3. Integration: Completing all the necessary compliance and culture training while on the job.
  4. Performance: Ending with a great meet/greet with the company executives, and an opportunity to chat with customers about the product.

According to the eLearning industry, some disadvantages of mobile learning are software issues, hardware issues, distraction, misuse, and lack of connection/electricity.

Below I will explain how the PointClickCare onboarding program solves each of these issues.

  1. Software issues: This is mitigated prior to the orientation session. In addition, the orientation session also allocates the first 15 minutes of the meeting to ensure everyone is set up and has an IT member on the call to facilitate.
  2. Hardware issues: This is mitigated in the first stage by ensuring everyone has the correct hardware before their start date.
  3. Distraction: This is mitigated by ensuring everyone’s camera is turned on, and offering enough interaction activities for everyone to stay engaged.
  4. Misuse: This is mitigated through facilitation, everyone must sign compliance forms and offer form prior to training.
  5. Lack of internet connection or electricity: Unfortunately, there is not much that can be fixed here, this remains a disadvantage of any online training. However, this remains a risk in any workplace both within the office or outside.

By creating an engaging and clear onboarding process and program, PointClickCare makes their new employees feel welcome and set them on the path for success. Utilizing technology to ensure a positive experience and maintaining a highly supportive and interactive experience throughout.

    Hi Emma:

This is the first time that I have heard about the PointClickCare program. Health Care has been one of the primary focuses of IT software and hardware solutions. Much of this has been based on the needs of a global aging population. Seniors appear to have the most need when it comes to navigating anything on a laptop or mobile device. PointClickCare seems to have taken notice of this trend in demographics by ensuring their cliental is being provided quality service. This is good to see, and hopefully others in this industry take note and apply similar solutions.

Hi Brittany, thank you! Their technology is great, they are really leading in the Senior Care space. And just as importantly they have found great processes even within the company and really utilize all the technology they have to create an inclusive and passionate community of remote workers.
