Memrise is a mobile app designed to help users retain specific amounts of vocabulary in a subject area (Math, Chemistry), a language, or other topic of interest. Quizzes and questions are alternative methods that Memrise uses to keep users interested in their learning. For an ESL instructor like myself, this is interesting since the traditional way of learning vocabulary has been with flashcards, which can be very boring. Another neat feature of Memrise is the ability of users to choose through a catalog of lessons based on topics as well as the option for users to design their own lessons. Depending on the user’s motivations, it may promote forms of self- regulation. The app comes in a free, pro ($59 month), or life time ($129.00 one time fee). membership (PC Mag, 2017).
Though I have not yet used the App, from what I have researched, as with any app for learning, it tends to work best when combined with other apps that are connected to the same learning goal. For example: Memrise German courses will likely work very well with Duolingo German lessons and vis versa. Will this app make you fluent in a language or an expert in a professional field? Of course not. Memrise does however offer the flexibility of learning at your own pace anytime and anyplace, as long as you don’t misplace your smartphone.

Below I have posted this video from All Languages Resources that shows some of the images you will see on the app. Though it is for PC, I have found from my previous experience with mobile language apps, the functionality is nearly identical.
