Hello from Bahrain!

Hi everyone! My name is Tasneem, and this is my fifth MET course. I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, but am ethnically North African from Libya and currently reside in the small Middle Eastern island of Bahrain.

I graduated fairly recently with a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Linguistics; throughout my college experience, I worked as a freelance tutor and a teacher’s assistant at both elementary school and higher institution levels. My little experience in the educational field made me realize that though I love the field itself, I don’t feel that I’m suitable as a teacher; so, I decided to take a break from work to pursue a master’s in EdTech to stay within the field but to take on the role of a designer instead. Though my knowledge of mobile learning and WordPress is fairly limited and impostor syndrome is hitting me hard, I’m excited to learn and take in as much experience and knowledge as possible.

Nice to meet you all and I’m looking forward to collaborating with you all!

Thank you for being so open about your feeling of Imposter Syndrome. This is my first semester in MET and I am taking 523 and 500. It’s both exciting and daunting to say the least!

Hey Nicole! Congrats on joining the program! I know how nerve-wracking the first semester could be but you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to get the grades so long as you put in the work and effort. If you need any help with anything please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Hi Tasneem, I can completely understand how you’re feeling. When I read your intro, it was me in my first course, Etec 510 Design of Technology Supported Learning Environments. If you’re from the education field without a strong tech background or affinity, courses that lean more to that side can feel intimidating. I just read and experimented endlessly with stuff and gradually didn’t feel quite so anxious. You classmates and instructor will support you. Remember your strengths, you write clearly and succinctly. If you’re prepared to think the issues through with a critical inquiring mind, that’s all you need.

Hi Gary, thank you very much for your kind and encouraging words. I took ETEC510 last semester and absolutely could relate to that, but the group project was so beneficial in enhancing your teamwork skills and learning from those who are more experienced and that’s why I’m excited to start another class with a collaborative nature. Looking forward to learning from you and everyone else!

Hi again Tasneem. I guess by now we do realize how the other courses are different from ETEC 500, right?

All I knew was that you are living in Bahrain, but reading your introduction here, I see that it is a bit more complicated than that.

Welcome aboard and see you around.

Nice to meet you, Tasneem. Let go of the imposter syndrome. Already you’ve presented your introduction here beautifully. And the thing about the digital sphere is that it rewards the bold, and those who are not afraid to experiment. So look at this as an opportunity to do just that, to experiment.
