Hi Everyone,
My name is Chris Howey (originally from North Vancouver) and I am looking forward to interacting and learning from all of you during this ETEC 523 journey.
I am currently living and working in Bali, Indonesia as an MYP Individuals & societies and English Language and literature teacher. Presently I am teaching grades 6 through 8 which I’m very happy about. I am new to my current school having just arrived from Shanghai, China in July after spending the previous four years there. Prior to that, I was in Phnom Penh, Hanoi and Singapore. All of my teaching experience (aside from the BEd portion) has been international and within Asia. It’s been a truly wonderful experience and I am thankful to be able to live and work in this part of the world.
Before becoming an educator I worked as a photographer doing everything from stock photography to weddings. I love the creative process and enjoy taking photos as a way to relax and express myself. I also worked for a GeoScience company which allowed me to travel to and see many amazing places which quite possibly inspired my love for working abroad. I have brought the skills I learned in these professions into my teaching practice quite often.
This is my second term in the MET program so I still have a long way to go until I am done, but I am enjoying the journey so far. My objectives for taking this course are to find practical applications of the course content that I can apply to my teaching practice to enhance and make my students learning more authentic.
