A1 – Using H5P to enhance student assessment

Rationale:  I was given the task to create a syllabus for a grade nine curriculum through the Moodle learning platform. I wanted assessment to be an integral part of student interaction but to be honest, I found the Moodle platform very boring which pushed me to explore additional learning tools to make my learning activities more engaging. That’s when I discovered H5P authoring tools! This analysis explores the effectiveness of H5P services used to create interactive student evaluations through different Learning Management Systems. Hi Analesa,
Thanks for the analysis, this was really great! I’ve dappled in H5p a few times but never had occasion to dive in. One issue I’ve encountered in the past is copyright (risks because (all?) content created is shared in an open repository? Or at least, some of the free services are?) and privacy/data hosting laws (where is the content saved and hosted?) when using H5p. These roadblocks have always limited my ability to actually use H5p in my work, but I believe there are solutions and your examples have inspired me to look into it again. Thanks! 🙂

    HI Analesa,

Thanks for your analysis of H5P. It was great to look deeper into this digital resource for a learning tool as so often creating engaging content that is interactive requires so much time in learning and understanding how to use the different tools. The ability to search for interactive pre-developed content is very time efficient and also allows you to gain insight and inspiration what other teachers are creating. I very much appreciate the ever potential this offers in creating tools to help students assess learning along the way. I will definitely explore this further.

    Analesa,
I had never heard of H5P before, so thank you for sharing! I’m impressed with the potential of this product and, through a user experience its intuitive nature. If we apply pedagogy, I see value in the potential to have real time feedback and engagement activity that are supported by visuals. I am pleased that they market it for creating and sharing and not just consuming. This is a welcome shift in educational platforms.
