Pairing your micro:bit to your mobile device – accessible technology

Posted in KNOWLEDGE MILL, and Mobile Technologies

BBC micro:bit introduction – to use the micro:bit with an iPhone, iPad, or Android you can pair it using Bluetooth wireless

Coding has become an important skill in 2022. A micro:bit is a tool to help you learn coding, and something that allows you to create. The tag line is Create/Learn/Code – “Get creative, get connected, get coding!” – “The pocket-sized computer transforming the world.” (microbit.org). Most of the time, a micro:bit has been used with a laptop or computer, however, new to 2022, the micro:bit can be paired using bluetooth technology to any iphone or android device. What does that mean for coding? With the prevalence of phones, everyone can make, create, and learn anywhere they are (provided they have the micro:bit as well though).

Awesome new future. Thanks for sharing, Jennifer. Last semester, in the MET Community, we had a workshop with Kids Code Jeunesse in which we explored the micro:bit. It is a powerful tool to help children develop coding skills and computational thinking abilities. I can imagine how having an app for it expands the possibilities for exploration, as kids could now go outdoors and to more locations to play with this.

This is great! I think younger students should have access to coding free of charge. There are many free coding games and software, I personally use Scratch with my younger students but one I came across was “LEGO Star Wars Boost Droid Commander”, it is very entertaining and educational but it is a bit expensive. Do you have an idea of how much BBC micro:bit would cost?
