Hello there! My name is John (he/him). This is my sixth course in the MET program. I live in Nanaimo BC, on the traditional and unseeded territory of the Snuneymuxw First Peoples. I’m an elementary school music teacher.
While there has been some pushback and concern from some educators heading into the new school-year about cell phone use and AI technology, I’m looking forward to the new experience that ETEC 523 has to offer and jump headfirst into the experience. One goal I have is to push myself out of my comfort zone of the laptop as use my cell phone more often when completing the course.
On a personal note, I’ve recently moved to Nanaimo in the past three years; I’ve been trying joining new groups to get to know the community. I joined the Nanaimo Concert Band and play trumpet with the group, and have recently also joined the Bastion Running Club. This picture is post-concert with another favourite pastime … coffee!

Nice to meet you! I’m looking forward to the discussions I’m sure will undoubtedly occur this semester around the ChatGPT app, and other AI technology. I had an interesting experience with the program this summer, that sparked about an hour of debate amongst my friends and I. I agree with you as well about pushing outside my comfort zone. While I am typing this reply on my laptop, I am hoping to attempt to complete more of the course work on my cellphone. I’m trying to view it as advantages, as a way for me sneak in some course work during prep periods at school (I substitute teach, so somedays there is nothing for me to do during the prep period).
