Instructables

Instructables is my go-to website for all things inspirational in STEAM. Uploaded by everyday DIYers, there are thousands upon thousands of instructions on how to build…really anything! I had my grade 7 students explore this site as a model of how to write clear instructions for their own DC Motor projects. The goal was for them to ultimately upload their own Instructable for the online community. I had a student utilize this site as a guide when he was building his own mini CNC/writing machine. As a teacher, I have also used this site numerous times to find lesson ideas as they conveniently categorize the projects into grade groups. Truly, it is hard not to be inspired when you visit this site.

The write up by Kimberley Seto for this site is very intriguing and I like how the examples of lesson ideas were brought up right away. As an educator, I wanted to learn more about what this site has to offer and how I can incorporate ideas into my classroom. This seems like a great place to not only learn how to create but also to share your own projects.
Upon further investigation of the Instructables website and Twitter feeds, it declares itself as a community for those who are creative, curious and like to make things. You can basically learn how to create anything from crafting to cooking, building circuits to building furniture and the list goes on. In particular, I liked the section for teachers where you can view hands-on learning projects, learn how to code and even take classes on many different topics.
