Day 1

We are off to Belgium today! The plan is to go from Amsterdam to Brussels. Then go over to Bruges and spend the night.

I still find it hard to believe that within a few hours we will able go to another country. Its not even possible to fly across Canada within the same duration. Hopefully we will have better luck with the languages spoken here. See if i have any recollection of French from school since my Dutch is still non existent!

It took us longer than we expected to get to Brussels but we arrived in the city square in less than 5 hours :) The homeland of the best CHOCOLATE one can find! We were told that Mary and Elizabeth chocolate shops are the best in town and they for sure didn’t disappoint! The streets are filled with chocolate stores. My kind of place ;) We managed to find Manneken Pis, nearly walked past it, since its so much smaller than we expected! After that we stumbled upon a mural of Tin-Tin Comic! Walked through the Galeries St Hubert, the elegant shopping centre. We also made sure the have a Belguum Wafflle with if course chocolate and strawberries to balance it out of course…We sat and took in the Grande Place it was absolutely astonishing!! We grabbed some frites (famous fries) -what a heathy diet ehh? And hopped on the train for Bruges.

Getting off the train to Bruges was like going back in time. Bruges was once a walled city and has water surrounding the majority if the town. It is often referred to Venice of the North. We walked along the cobblestone streets to our hostel and mostly every building that we passes was brick with terra-cotta roofs. After checking in we ventured to a windmill, climbed up and were rewarded with a beautiful sunset setting over Bruges
