What?
ICDEP self-assessment is an ongoing task to keep track of our progress towards competency achievement in Dietetics program. It is like a compass that guides me through the program to stay on track. It helps me to stay focused and choose my activities relevant to the profession and points out areas I still need to cover. The goal setting exercise is an extension to ICDEP through which I can shape my next few years in the program and beyond.
So What?
It was a huge task to sit and work on ICDEP assignment, yet it equally is an important exercise. It required a lot of referencing and reflecting on what I had done personally, professionally, and academically. I was nervous at the beginning but as I worked on; I realized it was actually a great tool to have if I regularly visit that through the program. So far in FNH 380, I have learned that the program equally values my personal experiences, and I used them in filling for some competencies in ICDEP. Goal setting activity was very interesting since it showed achieving ICDEP competencies is an ongoing process I can achieve by making SMART goals. No matter if I don’t have experience in all areas, my purposefully chosen and achieved SMART goals will take me there.
Now What?
The assignment description indicates that we meet this document in FNH 380 and 480 so we can add more attained competencies to it.
I will continue to focus on ICDEP document and tailor my SMART goals towards meeting the rest of skills for entry-level competencies for dietetics. Management and population health are two areas of my focus for the next round of SMART goals. I understand these learning will take me beyond achieving professional competencies and become a better person. This is what I really enjoy most about this process and hold valuable.
