Film:
- “Cinderellas, Wolves, and One Enchanted Prince” (Brazil, 2008. Dir. Joel Zito Araújo. Portuguese with English Subtitles.)
This documentary traces the struggles of young Brazilian women who enter the world of sex tourism with the hope of achieving social mobility and finding their Prince Charming. From the Northeast of Brazil to Europe, the film follows these women and reveals the complexity of sex tourism, including its imbrications within the political economy, its roots in post-colonial imaginings, and the mutual fantasy of race and sex that inhabit both these Cinderellas and the many wolves (and few Prince Charming!) they meet.
