Introduction

Food is an essential part of our daily lives and access to healthy and affordable food is an important factor contributing to the quality of life. According to Slater et al, the concept of food deserts is defined as geographic spaces where low-income residents have limited or no access to retail food establishments. These spaces have emerged over the past 20 years and have been a concern in urban spaces. In addition, food deserts mostly affect people from employed and single-status households according to Vancouver Coastal Health. This study will investigate and located food deserts in Vancouver in addition to finding characteristics within the population who are most affected by these spaces. The objectives of this project are to identify food deserts by walkability, income and by population characteristics.
