Welcome to the Gitksan Research Lab website!

Welcome to the website for the Gitksan Research Lab at UBC! This is where you can find information on our projects and researchers as well as information about the language.

The Gitksan Research LabĀ is actively engaged in analytical research, text collection, dictionary work, and the creation of pedagogical materials.

We conduct fieldwork with three speakers in Vancouver every week, and team members travel to Gitksan territory at least once a year. Our research projects span everything from phonetics to semantics.

Our funders include SSHRC, the Jacobs Research Fund, and the UBC Hampton Fund.

    Hello,

    I have a few questions.

Is the Mother Tongues Dictionary project currently being updated?

Does the Hindle-Rigsby Dictionary conform to the current orthography used by native speakers of Sim Algyax, Gitxsanimx, Gitksenimx?

Why does the UBC Gitksan Linguistic Project not use Gitxsan?

    Thank-you,

    Hello,

What is the location of the photograph on your website?

Where these totem poles moved from their original locations?

    Thank-you,
