Research

HiLo Lab conducts parallel lines of research into a variety of projects. This includes the strategic reuse of waste materials—wood, plastics, textiles, and more. Our work spans thermoforming recycled plastics, developing composite layups using reconstituted wood fiber, and supporting post-burn reforestation through tree regrowth systems. We are currently designing a demonstration pavilion that integrates our “zippered wood” approach with other techniques developed within the lab. Our goal is to construct original, high-performance structures almost entirely from upcycled materials using accessible, low-barrier tools. HiLo projects are HouMinn projects, and are exhibited through HouMinn Practice.
