Apply for the Global Lounge Assistant. Deadline is this Sunday!

The Simon K.Y. Lee Global Lounge and Resource Centre (GL) located in the Marine Drive residences, is a place for students, faculty, staff and alumni to engage in learning and dialogue about the important global issues of our time. The GL Assistant is a student who has shown a strong ability to lead others and is interested in global issues and community building. The Global Lounge Assistant will act as a Community Animator, someone who can support and connect different people and ideas in order to create opportunities for collaboration and community building.

Within this role, the GL Assistant will lead a committee of student volunteers in order to develop and assist with programming & services for the Global Lounge & Resource Centre. On a day to day basis, the Global Lounge Assistant will staff the welcome desk of the GL and assist the Student Development Officer, Simon K.Y. Lee Global Lounge & Resource Centre, in all aspects of the GL’s day to day operation – this may include developing policies and procedures, maintaining accurate records of inventory and supplies, as well as assisting student groups, university departments and community groups with events. This would include: booking meeting rooms, assisting with set up, service & clean up of events, helping to set up AV equipment.

Applications open for UBC Residence Life positions

Interested in becoming part of the vibrant UBC Rez Life community? The 2012/13 Residence Life Staff recruitment campaign has begun, and they are looking for a number of energetic, outgoing and caring students to be part of their team!

There are two positions available for students. The Residence Advisor position is open to any full time UBC student.  The Residence Coordinator position is open to senior or grad students taking one to two classes.  You can find information about the positions on their website www.housing.ubc.ca.

There will also be a couple of Information Sessions for potential candidates.  These events include:

  • Application Writing on January 6 in Totem Park Reading Room from 5 – 6pm
  • Creating Your Resume on January 10 in Place Vanier Upper Atrium from 5 – 6pm
  • Residence Coordinator Information Session on January 17 in Place Vanier Upper Atrium from 6 – 7pm

All students interested in the positions are invited to attend these events, whether or not they currently live in residence.

Deadlines are sooner than you expect, and these positions are in high demand. So start polishing that resume and cover letter NOW to get a good chance of becoming part of this amazing team!

Become a Campus Tour Student Ambassador for UBC!

The International Student Recruitment office has started their recruitment for the Student Ambassador position.

Student Ambassadors are responsible for taking Canadian and international prospective students, their families and guidance counsellors on campus tours. They are looking for knowledgeable and approachable students who have demonstrated involvement in their UBC community.

Hiring will begin this spring to start in May or September of 2012, depending on the availability of the students.

Applications are open for Junior Student Leader positions with UBC Jump Start 2012!

UBC Jump Start is a transformative, transitional academic program for first year international and Aboriginal students. UBC Jump Start provides first year international and Aboriginal students with an intensive two-week academic preparation for university life that is followed by first year transition programming. UBC Jump Start offers a combination of lectures, classes, workshops, residence living, and social and cultural activities led by our outstanding faculty, staff, and student leaders.

UBC Jump Start is currently hiring 30-40 Junior Student Leaders. These positions are suitable for developing student leaders who are interested to grow their capacities as leaders and professionals.
