The Buried Life at UBC!

November 30th, 2010 by Katy

If you’re a fan of MTV’s hit show The Buried Life and you’re a student at UBC, you’re in luck!

The guys from The Buried Life are keynote speakers at this year’s Student Leadership Conference on Jan 8th, 2011. If you’re not familiar with the show, well, you should be! The four guys (Ben, Jonnie, Duncan, and Dave) from Victoria, BC are crossing off items from their list of 100 Things To Do Before [They] Die. In addition, “whenever they cross something off [their] list, they help a stranger cross something off theirs.” The result is an inspirational journey that’s entertaining, full of good music, and laughs (the guys are hilarious together!).

If you want to sign up, it costs $33.60 including HST. But if the price intimidates you (we are poor uni students) know that the price includes lunch, workshops, and other speakers. Also, that price is about a week’s worth of Starbucks, so if you’re super broke, just skip coffee for a week!

Here’s the link to the website where there’s tons more information on the other speakers, and where you can sign up yourself: http://slc.ubc.ca/

Woah thanks! Those contests look pretty cool! The thing concerning the blogsquad sponsorship is that I already paid…

Wow, I never thought a poor university student would bother to waste their money on Starbucks 😛

And as for your paying for the SLC already, the Blog Squad can reimburse you if they’re sponsoring us again this year.

Yeah, I don’t personally buy Starbucks every day, but I definitely know people who do! It’s pretty crazy.

How do we sign up to see TBL boys? There are so many options on the registration form. Thanks!

  • 7 Katy Dec 1, 2010 at 5:03 pm

Since the TBL boys are closing keynote speakers, everyone who goes to the SLC gets to see their speech during the closing ceremony (from 3:55-5:40pm). 🙂

    To whom it may concern,

I am not a student of UBC but heard of this event from someone involved in that community. I am very interested in attending this Leadership Conference, and if there is any extra room for a non-UBC student then I would love to be considered. I am currently attending Sentinel Secondary and am in grade 12. As I prepare for life after high school, I realize it is both an excitement and a challenge. The boys of the Buried Life have truly inspired me to challenge myself beyond my everyday restrictions, and to explore life and all it’s possibilities. I believe that this Leadership Conference will give me the confidence to take the initiative and responsibility in future tasks, and give me the drive to seek every opportunity that awaits after high school.

Thank you so much for your time, and I hope to hear back from you!
    Steff.

Hi Steff, I just visited the SLC FAQ page, and this is what it said, “The Student Leadership Conference reserves about 100 spots for high school students who have been nominated by their schools and are contacted directly by UBC Student Recruitment. Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to accommodate direct requests from additional students.” It sounds like you’re really passionate about seeing the TBL boys, and it totally sucks that there were only 100 spots! However, you could try sending them an email – maybe they could squeeze you in or something. I wish I could help you more, but I’m just a student at UBC. 🙁
