“It’s not what you do with your profit but how you make your profit.”

As we delve further into the fundamentals and essential principles of the business world, a concept that continues to resonate with me is social entrepreneurship. Along with my involvement with Enactus UBC, a non-profit organization that aims to impact local communities and benefit our roles as global citizens, I’d like to further gain insight, knowledge and understanding on this important topic.

I infer that since our parent’s generation of when they first entered the workforce, the business industry has significantly changed with the implementation of innovation, technology and ethics.  As reviewed in the Business Wire article, the growth for social concerns and corporate social responsibility is continuing to impact many young, determined individuals of our generation. From beliefs that this is a result of the great recession, or due to the fact that there are more available resources through the web, an abundant amount of teen entrepreneurs are motivated in adding value, awareness and sustainability on society’s most pressing issues. In a recent campaign known as “She Inspires”, MTV profiled the success and involvements of five young females all honing their skills for success. After watching these videos and learning about these driven individuals, I truly felt empowered and motivated by the number of opportunities that each of us has to offer.  In reference to the quote stated at the top, as future business leaders, I think it’s not about what we learn, but really about how we want to apply it. From there, we too, can pioneer social change.
